Chambers Harrap Publishers in Edinburgh is currently threatened with total closure by its parent group Hachette UK. This will mean the loss
of the jobs of all 27 skilled staff, the ending of 190 years of publishing history in Edinburgh, and will have potentially grave
consequences for the future of publishing in Scotland. It will also
directly threaten the quality of the company's major titles, such as The
Chambers Dictionary, which will be published from London with no dedicated staff, and the future development of ELT projects such as Chambers Student Learners' Dictionary.
